Why You'll Love This Recipe
Good for a crowd - this delicious dip is perfect for your next football party! Just like buffalo chicken dip, this recipe can easily be made in a crock pot so that it stays warm throughout the big game.
Great textures - the combination of cream cheese, sour cream, and shredded cheese make this dip so creamy. Paired with the little bits of crispy bacon and crunchy dippers, this dip will keep you coming back for more.
Versatile - this creamy chicken bacon ranch dip recipe can be easily adjusted to suit your taste preferences, and can be lightened up using a few simple ingredient swaps. Check out the Substitutions & Variations section, below.
Ingredients
- Chicken breast. You can use breast meat from a rotisserie chicken or bake chicken breasts yourself.
- Bacon. Any variety of bacon you love to use! Just be sure to crisp it up in the oven or frying pan.
- Cream cheese. We love to use Philadelphia brand cream cheese - it has the best flavor.
- Shredded cheese. Monterey jack gets mixed into the dip since it's incredibly melty and smooth. Cheddar cheese gets added to the top for a sharp bite. It's best to buy blocks and shred your own cheese rather than buying pre-shredded cheese.
- Sour cream. This adds a bit of tang to the dip and helps cut through the heaviness.
- Ranch seasoning. Any brand of ranch seasoning will work! These are typically found as packets next to the bottles of salad dressing.
- Aromatics. Garlic and scallions are mixed into the dip to add an extra layer of flavor.
See recipe card for full ingredients list and quantities.

How to Make Ranch Chicken Dip in the Crock Pot
Mix together all of the ingredients, then add it to the bowl of a slow cooker. Cook on high for 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top 30 minutes before you plan to serve the dip and cover the crock pot so the cheese melts.
Keep the slow cooker on the "warm" setting while it's served so the cheese stays nice and melty.
Expert Tips
- Buy blocks of Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese, then shred or grate them yourself. Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that prevent melting.
- Make this dip ahead of your gathering and store up to two days in the refrigerator. Simply bake until it's hot and melty.
- Don't cut the chicken breast into pieces that are too large. A small dice makes it easier to scoop into dippers.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, however the texture will be very thick. If you're unable to warm this dip, we suggest serving at room temperature so that the cheese and cream cheese is slightly softer in texture. If you serve this dip cold or at room temperature, you'll also lose out on the melty cheese factor.
This recipe has only been tested with seasoning. Ranch dressing will add extra moisture and will create a looser texture to the final dip.
Storage
Store the dip covered in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat the dip in a 350℉ oven until completely heated through. Or, microwave batches of the dip in 30-second bursts, stirring in between each.
